AT&T iPhone Users to Get MMS Functionality by soft2web

Will put more string on AT&T's networkOwners of Apple's iPhone iconic device that live in the US will be able to benefit from the MMS functionality that the iPhone OS brought to their iPhone 3G and 3GS devices as soon as September 25, wireless carrier AT&T announced today. The long awaited feature will finally come to the iPhone, and it will only remain to be seen when they will also get tethering, another feature supported by the device but not by their carrier's network.

As many of you might already know, AT&T's network and the functionality it can deliver to the carrier's iPhone users have made it into the headlines quite a few times before. The main reason for this state of facts is the long list of complaints concerning the poor user experience, based mainly on the fact that the network is overcrowded by the nine million iPhone owners that use their devices intensively. Some of the latest reports point towards iPhone users eating up to ten times more network capacity than other smartphone owners on AT&T.

Indeed, data usage is expected to be on the rise in the future. The availability of iPhone MMS functionality will bring more string on the network, and the same will probably happen when tethering comes around too. We already talked about how the network is still unable to meet the tremendous demand for bandwidth coming from AT&T's iPhone users, so it shouldn't come as a surprise when the complaints on call drops and slow speeds will increase in numbers. Hopefully, the carrier will manage to improve its network fast enough to put them to an end and before its customers choose a carrier that does not face the same issues.

Toshiba Announces TG01 with Windows Mobile 6.5

Toshiba TG01 is already available for purchase on the market, based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, yet it seems that its maker has other great plans for it. The company announced that it would launch a new version of the device, the TG01 Windows phone, based on the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 flavor of the Microsoft platform. The new version is set to come to the market on October 6, announced the maker, and it should become available around Europe.

In addition to the new version of TG01, Toshiba also announced that the already existing variant of the phone is eligible for upgrade to the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 flavor, and that will come to TG01 owners at no cost. According to the company, the fully-certified TG01 Windows phone will deliver a wide range of great features to its users, including a finger-friendly start menu and a new Home screen, as well as a fun and interactive navigation between applications.

As many of you might already know, the Toshiba TG01 comes to the market with the high-power Snapdragon 1GHz processor, which will be also included in the new Windows phone, along with a 4.1-inch WVGA touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, integrated GPS and A-GPS technology, a sleek 9.9mm body, rich multimedia features, coupled with the new Windows phone experience, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB microSD card included in the package).

The popular route-planning software for Mac OS X, TrailRunner, has received a new update. The app can calculate a route for the desired distance, and is freely available for download right here, on Softpedia. Among other benefits, the program allows users to view Maps and Elevation Data from Internet mapping services like USGS topo maps.
TrailRunner can also import GPS Recordings from Trails for iPhone, as well as tracks and workouts from GPS fitness devices like the Garmin ForeRunner or Garmin Edge. Users can describe favorite tracks and rate them with iTunes stars, and plan their routes interactively, or automatically for a given distance. Exporting route directions onto an iPod is also possible, as is the ability to journalize workouts in a diary, see progress in a history chart, and ultimately publish a WebLog to MobileMe.

While TrailRunner 2.1.424 Beta added numerous fixes and tweaks, the latest beta release, TrailRunner 2.1v425, delivers a single fix. According to the release notes, Berbie has addressed an “unfortunate” bug that broke the open-last-saved-document feature. In recent beta releases, Berbie also added a select-all command key shortcut to select all data points in the graph view, as well as compatibility with Garmin Training Center 3.0.0.4 Beta (the import of power data, respectively).

Before downloading and using TrailRunner, The readers must note that the app is still in the pre-release state. Although TrailRunner is free, all current releases will run for about three months. Users are advised to regularly update to the most current version, as well as review and accept the License Agreement that comes with the application, before using it. TrailRunner versions above 1.6 (including the one available for download today) require Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard to run. The only remaining version supported on Tiger is TrailRunner 1.6. TrailRunner is updated on a weekly basis with very few exceptions.
